Charlottenburg Palace today is the largest residence of the Hohenzollern Dynasty in Berlin. Originally built by Elector Frederick III as a summer residence for his wife Sophie Charlotte in 1699, the palace was later extended into a stately building with a cours d`honneur. This magnificent palace is surrounded by a baroque garden, in which diverse architectures melt into a unique ensemble. The entire palace presents itself with majestically furnished rooms and saloons and with excellent art collections that offer outstanding masterpieces.
The Berlin Palace Orchestra has been formed exclusively for the concert series at Charlottenburg Palace. All members of the ensemble are highly professional and respected musicians from Berlin showing a deep understanding of late Baroque music and music of the classical period as well as a true passion for its interpretation. Endowed with a truly unique feeling for music as well a high level of musical homogeneity, the orchestra presents outstanding works of this remarkable era to today’s audiences.
The program includes an exclusive selection of musical highlights from the 17th and 18th centuries: works by composers Johann Sebastian Bach, George Friedrich Händel, the highly talented King Frederick II and his court musician Luigi Boccherini, and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Concerts are held in the Grand Orangery of the Palace. On some 17 days of the year, concerts are held in the White Hall of the small Orangery.
