ItineraryDay 1
Frankfurt
After your arrival at Frankfurt airport your personal driver-guide Day 2 Frankfurt – Heidelberg – Trier
After the breakfast leave for Heidelberg, the oldest German university town where the guide will show you the inner courtyard of the impressive castle, UNESCO World heritage site, and the wine cellar with its big barrel. The welcome lunch with an excellent local wine will be served at famous restaurant Zum Ritter St. Georg, built in the 16th century. In the early afternoon drive to Trier, Germany’s oldest city, located at the river Moselle. According to legend, in 2000 BC the Assyrians established a colony here. The Roman settlement of Augusta Treverorum was founded under Augustus in 16 BC. Trier became a favoured residence of several Roman Emperors. Overnight at hotel Golden Tulip or similar. (B/ L) Day 3 Trier – Cologne
in the morning enjoy a city walk of Trier. The face of the city is
impressively shaped by the Roman era. The most famous relic
is the Porta Nigra, the beautifully-preserved fortified gate from
the great age but many other major stylistic epochs have also
left behind their monuments. Quite justifiable, the city has been
declared a treasure of world civilization by UNESCO. Trier is Germany's oldest wine-growing centre. Famous
vineyard estates and celebrated wine producers are
headquartered here so it also pays to become acquainted with
the subterranean realm of the Trier sommeliers! Take the
scenic route along the Moselle with a wine tasting in one of the
charming villages. Go on to Cologne where you will arrive in
the early evening. The rest of the day is at leisure to explore
some local breweries where the ‘Kölsch’ (light beer served in small
glasses) can be sampled. Overnight at Maritim hotel or similar.(B) Day 4 Cologne
Today you will visit Cologne. starting at the cathedral which is one
of the largest gothic churches in europe the city tour will lead you
through the small alleys of the old Town and splendid avenues to
the river rhine with its bridges and parks. should you be a
sweet-lover, your guide will plan a visit of the Chocolate Museum
where you can learn all about chocolate and sample from the
large chocolate fountain as much as you can. Take your time in the
afternoon to discover Cologne on your own. overnight at Maritim
hotel or similar. (B) Day 5 Cologne – Koblenz – Rüdesheim
After breakfast leave for Koblenz where the Moselle meets the
Rhine. In the early afternoon board a steamer for a Rhine river
cruise from St. Goar to Rüdesheim, passing fascinating castles,
ruins and the legendary Loreley rock. Maybe, from the deck of the
ship, you will see the blond maid combing her hair.
Your driver-guide waits for your arrival at Rüdesheim to take
you to a tasting of Rhine wines. In the evening, celebrate a great farewell dinner at restaurant
Rüdesheimer Schloss. Overnight at hotel Traube Aumüller or similar. (B/D) Day 6 Rüdesheim – Mainz – Frankfurt
From Rüdesheim it is only a 45 minutes drive to Mainz, the
capital of Rhineland-Palatinate. You will visit the historic centre,
the dominating cathedral and the Museum of Gutenberg – the
inventor of the printing press – before you reach Frankfurt in
the afternoon where your tour ends at the airport or with your
check-in to the optionally booked post-tour hotel.
