Lake Constance
& the Count von Zeppelin

Duration: 4 Days / 3 Nights

For over three decades the airships were a luxurious and prestigious way of travelling over the Atlantic. At around 270m long and accommodating 72 passengers and 52 crew, they could be compared with the luxurious Atlantic ocean-liners. The modern-day revival of the Zeppelins - named after their inventor German Count Ferdinand von Zeppelin - uses the latest German technology in avionics and non-flammable helium to provide lift. The new Zeppelins are 75m long and have a gondola (passenger car) of 10.7m, three engines allowing a maximum speed of 125km and a flight ceiling of 3000m.

Itinerary

Day 1 Friedrichshafen
Arrive Friedrichshafen and make your way to the Seehotel Friedrichshafen, just across from the train station. A welcome cocktail, the Zeppelin NT, will help you get in the mood for adventure. Evening at leisure. Stroll along the lakeshore boardwalk and take-in the beauty of Germany’s biggest lake and the majestic peaks of the Alps. Dinner at your hotel.

Day 2 Lake Constance
Take time today to explore beautiful Lake Constance. Board a steamer for the 1.5-hour cruise, passing historic Meersburg, before arriving at the ‘flower island’ of Mainau, the life work of Count Lennart Bernadotte. Spend the day exploring and return in the late afternoon. Dinner at your hotel.

Day 3 Dornier & Zeppelin Museum
This day is dedicated to the aeronautic history of Germany. The two concepts: “lighter than air” (Count Zeppelin) and “heavier than Air” (Claude Dornier) are presented in their own museums. At the Dornier-Museum numerous historical aircraft, including legendary classics such as the Do 27, the Do Merkur and the Do 31 vertical take-off craft, are on display. Stroll through the exhibits at the Zeppelin Museum to take in the Zeppelin zeitgeist. The Museum also hosts the most prominent art collection from the Lake Constance area covering the last 500 years.

Option: Zeppelin Flight & Period Dinner
Transfer by limousine to the Airship Terminal, where you will have time to learn about the airship technology, before boarding the airship for your 30-minute flight over Friedrichshafen and the shore of Lake Constance. Once back on the ground, transfer back to your hotel or continue exploring Friedrichshafen at leisure. Dinner is a special treat tonight: a 4-course meal sampling the original menu of the ‘Graf Zeppelin’, the airship that circumnavigated the world in 1929.
