Itinerary
Day 1 Frankfurt - Rüdesheim
Pick-up from the rail station or your hotel by private car and driver and head-off to the Rheingau wine region for visits to three wineries.
Weingut Fritz Allendorf: A large, modern family-run operation producing a wide range of fine wines.
Martin Siegfried Wines: A small family-run winery that has been producing wine for many generations. Combining traditional wine production with modern techniques in their Rüdesheim vineyards.
Georg Breuer: Cultivates 23ha in Rüdesheim and 7ha in the Rauenthal producing an excellent range of wines with an international reputation. One of the top 10 winemakers in Germany. Overnight in Rudesheim at the Breuer family-owned Hotel Rudesheimer Schloss hotel.
Day 2
Rudesheim – Nahe Region – Frankfurt
Following breakfast, your driver will collect you again and take you to the Rüdesheim pier to board a Rhine Cruiser for the hour’s journey to the ancient town of Bacharach, in the Rheinhessen wine region. Continue by private car/driver to the River Nahe.
Johann Tullius Winery: In operation since the 16th century and producing outstanding red and white wines. Continue to Bermersheim, in the Rheinhessen region.
Geil’s Sekt & Weingut: A family-run operation specialising in the rare and labour-intensive Trockenbeerenauslesen and Eiswein. The grapes must be individually selected and picked by hand.After the tasting your driver will take you back to Frankfurt (about 1 hr travelling time), to the rail station or your hotel.
More about the Wine Regions
Germany’s most important viticultural centres are along the Rhine, Moselle and Main rivers and around Lake Constance, with total land coverage of the 13 wine districts at around 100,000 hectares. Enjoy a rare insight into three of Germany’s wine producing regions during these two days, visiting 5 unique wineries and tasting their wines. These three regions are all within 160 km of Frankfurt.
Rheingau (3,125 ha): a small region on a bend in the Rhine River, well-known for its wine estates, stately homes, abbeys, castles and cultural monuments. Principal wines are Riesling and Pinot Noir. The Rheingau is the home of the Centre for Viticulture and Oenology in Geisenheim.
Rheinhessen (26,444 ha): Germany’s largest wine region producing a great variety of wines from the easy-drinking to wines of great elegance and complexity. Grape varieties include Müller Thurgau (Riesling-Sylvaner), Riesling, Dornfelder, Silvaner, Portugieser among others.
Nahe (4,155 ha): The Nahe River gives its name to this small but important wine region producing mostly Riesling, Müller Thurgau and Dornfelder grapes.
